Agapanthus - 'African lily' or 'lily of the Nile'

Agapanthus, commonly known as the African lily or lily of the Nile, is a stunning perennial that adds elegance and colour to any garden. Native to South Africa, these plants are prized for their globe-like clusters of flowers, typically in shades of blue and white, with some cultivars offering delicate pink tones.

Agapanthus grows in clumps and can reach 30–120 cm (1–4 ft) tall, making it ideal for garden borders, containers, and coastal landscapes. Its long, strap-like leaves—evergreen or deciduous depending on climate—create a lush backdrop for the dramatic blooms that appear in summer, attracting bees and butterflies.

Renowned for their drought resistance, Agapanthus thrives in well-drained soil and full sun, making them perfect for xeriscaping and low-maintenance gardens. With their adaptability and striking appearance, these plants are a favourite among gardeners and landscapers looking for vibrant colour and texture throughout the season.
